Shôwa Nostalgia Museum, Aizu-Wakamatsu, Fukushima
A watercolour painting on rag paper of the Shôwa Nostalgia Museum in Aizu-Wakamatsu, Fukushima, Japan.
A little shop and museum of the Showa era of Japan, in Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima. Full of old bits and pieces from the mid century in Japan. From trinkets and toys of the 50s and 60s to a recreation of a traditional room from that period. There are loads of old signs upstairs too that are just fantastic. It’s basically a small two story shop so worth avoiding if there’s a school trip there at the same time but generally just excellent. If you enjoy this shop I also recommend visiting hanbey when you’re over there. It might be a chain restaurant but it’s really great.
Aizuwakamatsu is a cute little town in Fukushima with routes to Ouchi-juku a small village with traditional thatched houses. The whole area was fantastic and I got extra credit for speaking Japanese because they don’t get many foreign tourists out that way. 日本語上手!
This is also near the fields in the view from a train that I painted a while back. Highly recommend getting out into the countryside if you make it to Japan.
In the same town we found a little cocktail bar that gave us a tiny ceramic frog as omiyage and had some great food (of course)
Watercolour on Rag Paper
