Barbican Library
30 × 30 cm
Many people know I like to go to the Barbican to work, sometimes that’s in the foyer or mezzanine with the hustle and bustle of people working, meeting friends, staying in one of the few warm public spaces in London where you don’t have to pay to be there that isn’t a library. But if you want the calm and quiet of the library alongside the joys of the Barbican, then finding a spot in a corner of the higgledy piggledy bookcases is the closest you can get to peace in the big city. The view is from a spot that is currently closed off as they begin the refurb work. This is a favourite though, the seats are comfy and a shade of blue that feels just right. Unsurprisingly, the light is perfectly gentle, shining through as it squeezes under the overhang so as not to blind anyone.
